The house - worth £217,000 - was paid for by criminal activity

THE home of murdered gangster Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll has been seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The £217,000 villa, which the feared enforcer shared with his partner and children, will be sold and the cash given to good causes.

Carroll obtained the house “through his involvement in organised crime, violence, drug dealing and his obtaining of mortgages by fraud”.

In March, Scottish ministers applied for a court order for the property in Lennoxtown, Dunbartonshire, to be seized. Carroll’s next of kin did not contest the action.

His partner Kelly Green, 31,and her three sons moved outof the house days after the order was granted at the Court of Session in Edinburgh on May 1.

An assurance policy in Carroll’s name was also seized.

Ruaraidh Macniven, of the Civil Recovery Unit at the Crown Office, said: “The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 enables civil proceedings to be taken to recover the proceeds of crime where prosecution is not possible for some reason, including, as in this case, where the alleged perpetrator of the crime has died.

“The Civil RecoveryUnit will continue to target assets which have been obtained through crime and, in particular, serious organised crime.” Carroll, 29, was gunned down in a gangland execution as he sat in a car outside an Asda store in Robroyston, Glasgow, in January 2010.

Earlier this month, Ross Monaghan, 30, was cleared of the murder after a judge at the High Court in Glasgow ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him.

During the trial, the jury heard Carroll described as a “nutcase” who used extreme violence and torture on his enemies.

The drug-dealer was so feared that police had drawn up a list of 99 potential suspects for his killing.

His partner Green – daughter of crime boss Jamie Daniel – has returned to the Milton area of Glasgow.

Green and Carroll had two sons Konnor, eight, and three-year-old Boe.

Green has a son Reece, 12, froma previous relationship.
